About Me

An Engineering Foundation
Before I was a high school physics teacher, I spent my days analyzing airflow and aircraft. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University and spent the first chapter of my career working as an HVAC engineer and an aviation engineer for the FAA, serving as the restricted category helicopter focal. I loved the technical rigor of the field, but I eventually realized that my favorite part of the job was breaking down complex technical concepts so others could understand them.
The Classroom Transition
That realization led me to earn my Master of Science in Secondary Science Education from UMass Boston with a Concentration in Special Education. During my years teaching physics I worked with students across every level, from Conceptual to Honors. I recently pressed pause on traditional classroom teaching to stay home with my two young kids, which gave me the opportunity to launch King Physics! Today, I split my work time between designing rigorous, ready-to-use curriculum for science teachers and providing targeted, 1-on-1 tutoring for high school physics students (I currently hold my teaching license in physics in the state of Massachusetts).
My Teaching Philosophy
Physics shouldn’t be a test of how well you can memorize disconnected equations or track significant figures. It is about building a concrete mental model of how the physical world actually works. I’ve worked with so many students who feel overwhelmed by just the idea of physics, and I love to help them see that they can be good at it! I strive to create a culture where students feel comfortable asking questions, and know that it is OK to make mistakes!
Off the Clock
When I’m not tutoring or designing new educational resources, you can usually find me at home with my husband, our two kids, and our two rescue dogs, Ellie and Gus, or volunteering at the local animal shelter. I enjoy reading, staying active, gardening, and spoiling my small flock of backyard chickens.
